This is sapphire paydirt from the FNQ Gemfields around Emerald, Sapphire, Ruby vale and Anakie. Each bag contains raw sapphires, corundum, zircon, garnet and possibly other stones mined in the central Gemfields of Queensland.
The process is simple, the miners peg a $500 claim and start digging for river wash in long forgotten deep Leeds. The Stones in this dirt are from our friends at GemFest, the single best gemstone show in the Southern Hemisphere.
The river was is either manually sieved to concentrate the sapphires and other gemstones with the other heavier materials like ironstone. Or they use automated jigs to do the same thing.
Once concentrated it's a matter of flipping the sieve over and using your eyes to search for the precious stones. They can be as small as a pin head or as large as a tennis ball.
And I can tell you it's loaded!
Every spoonful I've done reveals dozens of gemstones. From raw sapphires and zircons to all other manner of volcanic mineral
You can either sieve it in a kitchen strainer, pan it in a gold pan or go though it by eye.

You guys are amazing! I had a great time sifting through my bags with my nephew and niece. The gems are so fun for them to find and wash. Thankyou guys so much, it might be a bag of rocks but fuck its a good fun thing to do.
Got 2 Sapphire and Garnett slobber bags. Not going to lie, when I first seen the 2 bags I thought they were a little small, but not to judge a book by it's cover!
But when I started searching for the sapphire's and garnett's, I was so happy to be proven wrong! The 2 bag's where packed with SO many gemstones! Definitely a lot more than I was ever expecting, especially for the price!
I had so much fun picking them all out! And will definitely be ordering more in the near future!

Not whatsure what I would find in the bag as this is the first time I have done this . There were a few red stones and possibly some blue ones. I will find an expert to see if any can be cut or not.
My family had a great time hunting through this bag it was great fun and got some great stuff . Thanks to everyone at the Old Molly 👍 we will definitely be ordering more
I have spent a few hours trying to get the gold and gems separated from the black sand- phew;) not a huge amount of gold but it was an enjoyable experience:) superb customer service btw. 10 out of 10, would recommend:))
